May 12- Mind/Body

Meditation: Calm, 7 Days of Calming Anxiety: Mind and Body
Length: 11 minutes
Where: Home Office/Guest Room, Los Angeles
How It Felt: Calming

Back to the “Calming Anxiety” series, and happy to be there. As my schedule going forward continues to fill and fill and fill, I feel the anxiety closing in, slowly, like a dark fog around the edges of my excitement.

How did we used to do so many things in one day? Today, I did a play reading and a little cleanup and I’m totally mentally exhausted! Thinking back to my old schedule, I really can’t remember how it worked! Just go from one thing to the next, I guess, then collapse into bed and start over?

To be honest, I had purposefully been building a life where I could slow down a little and smell the roses, so to speak, and even that version of things seems insanely hectic now. On one hand, I can’t wait for in person shows, for classes where I get to be physically near other humans, for screenings and gallery openings and all the travel a girl can bear!

On the other hand…. *screams*

So, the meditation. It was about the mind-body connection, which I love. One of my big tricks for dealing with anxiety in life, before an audition, prior to a hard conversation, etc, is to focus on my body. I like to count my breaths to slow my heart rate, focus on things in the room, do some stretching or pacing to shake the sillies out, etc.

This was basically a body scan, which I always love. Relax the jaw, relax the shoulders, relax it all. It always feels so good.

I’m going to keep going with this series and see if I feel less anxious at the end. Also, I noticed this completely awesome playlist before I closed the Calm app which I can’t wait to use! (I need to explore this app more- they have a ton of cool stuff. Let me know if you have any features you like or recommend from any of the apps that aren’t just the regular meditations. I get overwhelmed!)

Now I’m missing raves and music festivals, too!
