Meditation: Headspace, Finding Focus #4 Length: 11 minutes Where: Office/Guest Room, Los Angeles How It Felt: Like a needed mental break
Enjoying the repetition of this “Finding Focus” series. That’s one thing Headspace does well: practicing the same mental exercises over and over until they become easier.
Still doing the “scale playing” exercise where we focus on a spot on our bodies, moving up and up until we are above our heads, then back down through the brow, throat, chest, diaphragm, belly, and feet. It’s just a way to concentrate on something concrete, but it really helps me stay present.
Our homework is to stop and do this at least once a day, but hopefully more often, to bring us back to the present. With that reminder, I’m going to pause and do it now!
Ah. That was nice.
Just got off a phone call with my husband where we discussed how challenging it is to stay present and constantly check in with yourself, especially when the days get busy. Sometimes those ten minutes or so we are meditating is the only time we ever stop to get still in our entire day! Those are precious minutes, and it becomes clear that the busier we are, the more precious they become.
I don’t know if I’m focusing better, but I know I’m practicing it and that it will inevitably get easier. And that’s the important thing!
