Meditation: Headspace, Appreciation #9 Length: 11 minutes Where: Office/Guest Room, Los Angeles How It Felt: Hard to concentrate but nice
I’m so intent on creating a morning routine, you guys. I really am. It’s hard!
I’m doing some things well. I’m generally getting up earlier, not sleeping til pandemic times (ahem, noon!) I’m doing yoga most days again, sometimes earlier in the day. I’m trying to get back into the habit of writing my blog the same day as my meditation, even right after when possible. I’m working on it!
I just know it will be the key to setting up each day for success, now that being “successful” that day will again include more than “took a shower!” or “brushed my teeth morning and night!” Pandemic rules were basically depression rules: do what you can and celebrate the tiniest victories.
With Steve working from home it’s even more important, since it can be so easy to slip onto his schedule and get a little off track. Even though we are super lucky and our building has a separate office space he can use, it’s still tricky.
Today I was a bit crabby (roofers banging hard overhead super early, didn’t sleep well, work was more challenging than expected, obnoxious Facebook interactions early in the day- using that block button, baby!) so I came home from work, had a snack, and did yoga. Then I went back to the “Appreciation” series, hoping to refocus my brain on the positive.
I definitely feel a little better! Trying to keep my mind off the CA recall election, which looks good but, hey, I’ve learned my lesson about common sense and trusting polls. Hubby should be home soon, and there will be a trip to Macy’s after which I hope to get lost inside a book. I have Hunger by Roxane Gay and Just As I Am by Cicely Tyson, both which sound incredible and, hopefully, riveting enough to get my mind off the news until we are pretty sure we know the results. Fingers crossed!
Man, I’m tired of elections! There is so much work to do, but I may need a bit of a mental break to focus on the Women’s March and then rest. 2022 is right around the corner and we are going to have to make sure as many people as possible can vote, meaning blocking discriminatory laws, registering as many as we can, and making sure everyone knows their rights and procedures. Considering how hard Republicans are working to purge and block voters- especially POC- we have our work cut out for us.
But, when we are tired, we rest, so we do not have to stop. Must remember this. No burning out!
Communication, boundaries, and self-respect: the keys to everything, I swear.
