Meditation: Calm, 7 Days of Managing Stress: Creating Balance Length: 12 minutes Where: Comfy Chair, Living Room, Los Angeles How It Felt: Perfectly Timed
Today’s meditation was about how we forget to take care of ourselves when stress becomes the focus of our lives. We often forget to eat well, exercise, sleep, or take time to rest or meditate. We spiral into a worse state because we have no balance.
This was a perfect time to be reminded of this, which is so true. I do get insomnia when I’m stressed, and if I have any appetite at all I want comfort foods. I stop working out, usually because I’m either busy dealing with whatever is happening, or because I’m totally shut down. It’s terrible.
As I head into the next two weeks, which will inevitably include some stress, I want to remember to stay balanced and to take care of myself. We are going to have a lot of joy and fun, for sure! However, whenever there is a lot of family involved, and travel, and kids, and cold weather, and things that need to be done by certain deadlines, and, for me, the Midwest in general, stress will likely follow. Now I feel prepared!
Happy I chose this particular meditation series at this time. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but it did include a lot of great reminders about how to navigate life when things get tense, and how to put my self-care at the forefront, something I seldom do when I go “home.” It’s hard to move out of the roles we’ve played for so long, but I’m definitely motivated to breathe and remember: it’s not all up to me.
Hopefully this serves as a good reminder to all reading this, as well! Take time for yourself, because burnout is so much worse than saying “no” from time to time.
